What is a Barrier? The word barrier in English mean: hurdles, obstacles, problems . In terms of communication: "The problems or hurdles that are encountered when trying to communicate or convey a given message" . Process of communication Before we discuss barriers of communication, I would like to briefly explain how the communication works and where the barriers are encountered. Communication is a two-way process. At one end we have a person that is trying to communicate or convey a message. And on the other hand, we have the person to whom the message is being delivered. A medium or a channel is a must for the sender. As it is what determines the approach sender will take in order to achieve the most efficient form of communication The barriers can either be medium specific or person specific. Never both.
